Nigerian singer Portable, also known as Habeeb Okikiola, sparked a dramatic scene when he attempted to evade arrest by jumping over a gate as operatives of the Lagos State Police Command sought to apprehend him on Tuesday.
Portable was taken into custody following a complaint from a car dealer to whom he owed money. The singer had initiated the purchase of a N27 million G-Wagon from the dealer, making an initial payment and promising to settle the remaining amount later.
In a video circulating on social media, Portable, dressed in a white and black striped shirt, could be seen having a friendly conversation with officers before they showed him a warrant of arrest. Despite initially responding calmly, Portable suddenly scaled a nearby gate and fled.
Subsequently, he was apprehended by police operatives and bundled into a standby vehicle. Confirming his arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that Portable had purchased the G-Wagon, paid part of the amount, but refused to settle the rest, claiming the vehicle was defective.
Portable, known for his controversies, previously faced legal issues in 2023 over assault allegations. Despite his past troubles, he gained fame with his hit single “Zazoo Zehh,” featuring rapper Olamide in 2021.
