Sokoto-born musician and Nollywood actor, Umar Usman, aka Sojaboy, has sets up a charity foundation to cater for the less priviledges and school children in Sokoto State.
Sojaboy, in his remarks explained that putting smiles and joy in peoples face, especially the less privileged in the society is what motivates him in setting up the Usman Sojaboy charity foundation.
Some of the items distributed include educational materials, detergents and pomade to orphanages and schools in the state.
Presenting the items at the UK Jarma Academy in Sokoto on Friday, Usman said the gesture was to support his community.
He also distributed same items to some schools through the chairman of Sokoto State universal basic education on Sunday at the auditorium Hall of Sultan Macciddo Institute of Quranic and General studies.
The entertainer stated that he grew up as an underprivileged child from a humble background who had to struggle to make a living. According to him, he also established a foundation to support the underprivileged persons, especially children.
He said, “I provided cartons of chalk, exercise books, textbooks, school uniforms and cash as support for some schools,” he said.
The California, United States of America based artist also stated that the UK Jarma Academy was chosen because the school hosted orphans who lost their parents due to the insurgency in Borno and Yobe states.
The chairman of Sokoto North local government, Alhaji Mustapha Shehu, who was a special guest of honour at the programme commend Sojaboy for the gesture.
He said governments alone cannot do everything for the citizens, thereby such gesture is expected from individuals to complement efforts of the governments.
