Every August, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip head to Scotland for their summer holidays. The country within the United Kingdom is a very special place for Her Majesty: The monarch is descended from Scotland’s Royal House of Stewart on both sides of her family and she’s been summering there since she was a child, nestling in at Balmoral Castle on her privately owned estate in the Scottish Highlands that’s been in her family since the 1840s.
