The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) Prof Maxwell Ogbulu has challenged scientists and senior academia in the faculty of Biological sciences to put in more efforts towards the discovery of COVID-19 vaccine.
Speaking while receiving members of the senior academia from the faculty who paid him a courtesy call, the VC said by doing so that ABSU and the researchers will be putting their names on the global map for eternity.
Ogbulu expressed confidence in the ability and quality of the academia in the faculty who have the capacity to join others in the research sector across the world to develop a new vaccine to fight COVID-19 which has become a global scourge.
The VC thanked the members of the biological sciences faculty for the visit and their prayers for his administration as well as the prayers of other staff unions of the university.
Prof Ogbulu also thanked them for calling off their industrial action which he said had paved way for the resumption of academic activities in the university and promised not to betray the confidence they repose on him.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Dean of the faculty, Prof S. N. Umeham explained that they were at his office to congratulate him on his new appointment and to pledge their loyalty and support for his administration.
Prof Umeham said that the new VC is a distinguished Prof of finance who was among those who helped to kick start the university in its formative years, as he started his teaching career as assistant lecturer at their then Aba campus.
