The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a young man, Ali Salisu, in Gidan Kacha village, Gada Local Government Area of the state.
Police investigations revealed that Salisu, a resident of Darnawa village, was allegedly lured to his death by his girlfriend, Rukayya Amadu, who conspired with another lover, Hamisu Ibrahim, to rob and kill him.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the incident occurred on October 4, 2025, after Rukayya invited the victim to meet her in a secluded area at Dabagi bush under the pretext of a private rendezvous.
“Unknown to him, Rukayya had arranged with Hamisu to set a deadly trap,” DSP Rufai stated. “When the victim arrived, Hamisu ambushed him, tied a rope around his neck, and strangled him to death before fleeing with his red Kasea motorcycle.”
Subsequent investigations, the statement added, led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Lawali Abdullahi and Ibrahim Abdullahi, who allegedly received and attempted to dispose of the stolen motorcycle in Sokoto.
“All four suspects are now in custody and will soon be charged to court for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, armed robbery, and receiving stolen property,” Rufai confirmed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the detectives for what he described as “meticulous investigative work” that exposed the deadly plot.
“This case is a reminder that no crime, no matter how carefully planned, can remain hidden forever,” CP Musa said. “It is a tragic story of betrayal and misplaced trust that ended in needless loss of life.”
He urged members of the public to be cautious in personal relationships and avoid secluded areas, especially at night, warning that “love and trust should never override common sense and safety.”
The Commissioner also advised buyers and traders to always verify ownership documents before purchasing valuables like motorcycles or vehicles.
“Receiving stolen property is a serious crime,” he cautioned. “Ignorance will not excuse anyone from criminal responsibility.”
The Command appealed to residents to report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station, assuring that such information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
“Our duty is to protect lives and property,” CP Musa added. “With continued public cooperation, Sokoto will remain a safe and peaceful state for all.”
