Abia State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of a retired Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia nurse, Mrs. Queeneth Alozie last Sunday in Umuahia.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Geoffrey Ogbonna, investigation is on to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of the widow.

Until her death, Mrs. Queeneth Alozie was the wife of a late Medical Doctor, Dr. Alozie from Umuda Isingwu and who owned a hospital called Obioma Hospital in Umuahia city Centre which she took over the management before her untimely death.

Mrs. Alozie retired in 2005 and has been living alone in Umuahia while the children live outside the country.

According to a close door neighbor, she recently engaged a second gateman, alleged to also be from her maiden home, Mbaise in Imo state just like the old gateman.

On that faithful Sunday, the older gateman was to attend a church service and asked the new one to take over until he comes back.

According to the older gateman (names withheld), he came back from the church service and knocked on the gate severally, but there was no response.

“I called his (gateman’s) phone number many times and his line was switched off. I then called that of my madam, there was also no response”, he said.

When he couldn’t get any answers to his calls, he became worried and along with neighbours, broke open the gate and as usual, went in through the back door to the house, only to see the woman lying lifelessly in her own pool of blood and with a wound at the head as if she was cut with an axe.

Further information (unconfirmed) has it that Mrs. Alozie was billed for an Embassy Wednesday, to formalize her travel documents.

As at the time of this report, the whereabouts of the second gateman is yet to be ascertained.
