The Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State command has denied social media report concerning the arrest of nine persons suspected to be bandits in Sabon Birni local government area of the state as untrue and should be disregard in it’s totality
The spokesman of the command in the state, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, disclosed this in a press statement he made available to newsmen in the state on Tuesday.
He explained that those arrested dressed in same uniform upon investigation were discovered to be on their way coming from a Wedding of one of them in a nearby village.
“The Sokoto State Police Command is aware of a viral social media post alleging that some bandits were arrested at Sobin birni LGA yesterday 30/10/2023. The Command hereby clarifies that such information untrue.
“Rather, the nine people arrested are coming from ZANGON TASHALAWA village going to Sabon-Birni on a wedding ceremony of their friend by name YUSUF ATTAHIRU all of them wearing same( Aso-Ebi) uniform and not on any form of uniform, unarmed and borded commercial motorcycles from KURAWA village to Sabon- Birni town.
“Subsequently the vigilantee inform the military and they were arrested around 1300Hrs and in custody of the military.
“We strongly frown at the spread of false information that may incite the public and hereby urge the public to continue their lawful activities, as any individual(s) involved in criminal activities will face the consequences as spelt out in the Law”
The statement however said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Hayatu Kaigama, reassure residents that Sokoto State remains a secure and safe environment.
