As flood disaster continues to cause havoc across many communities in Nigeria, the World Health Organisation has intensified cholera sensitization to Almajiri schools and other prone areas in Yobe state
The State Coordinator, Nuhu Barau-Ningi explained, 34 health champions two from each local government areas have been engaged in the exercise that have been extended to 90 days so as to reach all nooks and crannies of vulnerable communities in the state.
Barau revealed the effort was aimed at supporting the government to provide precautionary measures against the cholera disease, that was why it visited Babban Tsangaya, a non-formal Almajiri schools as well the vulnerable communities in Damaturu metropolis for sensitization.
He charged the health champions to intensify the risk communication on better hygiene, eliminate open defecation as well to report any suspicious disease to public health workers.
Both the government and the communities believe the house-to-house sensitization would minimize the expected outbreak of the cholera diseases in the areas considering their vulnerability.
