The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic continues to make impact in Sokoto as the state again on Wednesday recorded another 34 new positive cases of the virus.

A statement released on the official Twitter handle of the state ministry of health and monitored by our correspondent in Sokoto confirmed that 20 patients were discharged from the isolation centres in the state on Wednesday even as two deaths were recorded in the isolation centres.

The total number of positive cases recorded in the state since the first index case now stands at 593, out of which 399 have been successfully discharged.

Also, the total number of tests carried out so far in the state has moved to 13,728, from which 13,135 returned negative with another 308 pending as at the time of writing this report.

Meanwhile, with two new deaths recorded on Wednesday, the total number of casualties related to coronavirus in the state now stands at 22.

In a statement, the state chairman of the state task force against covid-19, Dr Muhammed Ali Inname, urged residents of the state to always abide by the laid down protocols issued by health experts.

Inname who is also the state commissioner for health said the state government was doing everything humanly possible to curtail the spread of the virus in the state.
