The Task Force on Covid-19 in Gombe state says it has so far conducted three thousand six hundred and sixty-eight tests on individuals in the state with a record number of two hundred and seventy individuals returning positive to the deadly virus.

Chairman of the task force Prof Idris Mohammed says the huge number of positive cases, is an indication that the state task force must take stricter measures to stop community spread.

Two weeks after the death of a government official from Covid-19, the task force in Gombe stepped up the ante with massive testing of individuals in the state. It thereafter recorded an increase of a hundred and fifty eight in the number of people with COVID-19.

With the high number of people being infected with the virus and fewer number of deaths, the task force says this approach may lead to a gradual easing of restrictions but that remains a decision of the state government.

With the cautious approach from the task force, it says a lot of responsibility falls on the people who must take preventive measures and good hygiene in order to beat the virus.
