The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that 15 people have died following an attack on a mosque in Gadan village, Gezawa Local Government Area. The incident occurred during dawn prayers on Wednesday, when a man allegedly sprayed the mosque with petrol, locked the doors, and set the building on fire, trapping worshippers inside.

Initially, only one death was reported, but the toll rose as more victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano. Commissioner of Police Usaini Gumel informed the News Agency of Nigeria that out of the 24 victims, 15 have died.

The suspect, 38-year-old Shafi’u Abubakar, is in police custody. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a family conflict over inheritance issues. The police continue to investigate the incident, while the injured are still being treated at the hospital.
