Manasseh Aluga, a 16-year-old Nigerian from Jos, Plateau State, has earned international recognition for his innovative approach to tackling plastic waste. Aluga was awarded second place in the prestigious International Young Eco-Hero Award by the United States-based environmental organization, Action For Nature (AFN), for his groundbreaking Kundu Waste Management Project.

The project, which transforms plastic waste into eco-friendly building bricks, has been hailed as a significant environmental innovation in Nigeria. Since its inception in March 2022, the Kundu project has successfully produced and distributed these eco-bricks to local construction sites, helping to reduce the harmful impact of plastic pollution.

AFN spokesperson Kelly Carnes praised Aluga’s dedication, stating, “We are impressed by Manasseh’s determination to create a cleaner environment, despite facing financial constraints and personal challenges.” The project was inspired by the devastating effects of plastic pollution in his community, leading Aluga to develop a solution that not only addresses environmental concerns but also contributes to sustainable building practices.

Aluga’s achievement is a testament to the power of youth-driven initiatives in making a positive impact on the world, highlighting the potential of innovative solutions to global environmental challenges.
