At least five hundred able bodied educated youth in Kebbi State have registered as community police, the shortlisted candidates obtained expression of interest forms from a local vigilante office in Birnin kebbi which has been approved by kebbi state police headquarters.
Speaking at his office in Birnin Kebbi,the head of the recruitment exercise Muhammad Lawal Soda said that,the youth for now will operate alongside existing vigilante until the final approval of community police by the federal government,he stated that a handful of women make the list who will be used as intelligence unit to ensure a drastic reduction of the girl child trafficking in the state.
Soda urge members of the community to cooperate with the community police as only men of unquestionable characters were incorporated into the exercise,he further said that,the trained youth will will synagise with the federal police and other approved security outfits in the state to ensure effective community policing in the state.
Lawal who seek the blessings of the royal fathers in the state said that,the success of the entire community policing lies on their heads as fathers for all including other village heads who can profile miscreants as they know true sons of the soil and suspicious person.
