Oyeyemi Restates Commitment to Human Capacity Development At The FRSC Academy Udi

In his avowed determination to improve the human capacity status of staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for improved productivity, the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has stated that he would leave no stone unturned in ensuring the success of Management’s policy on staff capacity development programmes. He made the assertion at the FRSC Academy Udi, Enugu State, while addressing course participants at the ongoing promotion exercise for officers on the rank of Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) preparing for promotion examination to the rank of Deputy Corps Commander (DCC).

Oyeyemi described as disturbing, a situation where some officers neglect the important role that human capacity development plays in career progression, saying the essence of promotion course is to ensure that officers properly review their current assignments, get introduced to the expected roles and are properly tested to determine their capacity and appropriateness for the new positions.

He further stressed that in achieving the goal of human capacity development programme in the Corps, the integrity of the promotion process is being protected to allow every participant a level playing ground.

He enjoined the participants to work hard to earn their elevation in order to contribute their quota to the development of the Corps. The Corps Marshal urged all FRSC staff across the country to embrace hard work, commitment to duty and be prepared to make necessary sacrifices to be able to cope with the challenges of traffic management in the country. He called for high level preparedness to overcome the perennial traffic challenges experienced, especially during the ember months due to the usual increase in human and vehicular movement’s during Christmas and new year celebration.

The Corps Marshal expressed gratitude to President Buhari-led administration for the sustained support and goodwill to the FRSC since the last 3 years which he described as unprecedented. He called on staff all over the country to reciprocate the kind  gestures of the President by recommitting themselves to the values of improved service delivery to the people.

Also addressing the participants, the Chairman of FRSC Board, Mallam Bukhari Bello advised the course participants to be dedicated to their studies to attain excellence in the promotion examinations. He expressed satisfaction with the fast growing nature of infrastructure at the Academy and urged the participants to make the best use of the facilities to enhance their knowledge of the Corps and general subjects.

The Chairman disclosed that the Board is aware of the current challenges facing  promotion exercise especially among certain senior ranks, but assured that everything is being done to address the issues frontally. He called for greater commitment and dedication on the part of the staff to avoid gaps that could undermine the status of the Corps as a high performing organisation.

Mallam Bukhari specially commended the Corps Marshal for his untiring commitment to developing the Academy particularly with the approval given by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the award of post graduate degrees and National Board For Technical Education (NBTE) to the FRSC Training School Jos, for the award of Diploma and other related certificates. He urged the staff to work towards upholding the virtues of road safety management and to sustain the leadership which Nigeria is providing in road safety management and safety administration to other African countries.

In his welcome address, the Commandant of the FRSC Academy, Assistant Corps Marshal Kenneth Nwaegbe expressed gratitude to the Chairman and the Corps Marshal for the visit he described as, novel, saying it would boost the morals of the staff of the Academy and participants as well. He gave comprehensive analysis of the operations of the institution as well as its infrastructural facilities being upgraded to meet with the increasing demands, especially with its upgrading to a degree awarding institution.

He further disclosed that a total of 219 participants are undergoing the course preparatory to taking examinations that could lead to their elevation to the next rank of Deputy Corps Commander..

As part of the activities to mark the visit, the Chairman in company of the Corps Marshal were led on the facility tour of the Institution by the Commandant, for a firsthand knowledge of the existing infrastructural facilities and ongoing construction works at the various sites.
