Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has saluted the giant strides of the founding fathers of Abia as well as the efforts of the contemporary leaders and promised to build on their achievements to make the state greater.
The Governor stated this at the 27th Anniversary of the state held at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, saying thatbHe the day calls for sober reflection and retrospect on how far the state has come as well as to project into the future.
The Governor commended the efforts and resilience of Abia’s past leaders and founding fathers on whose shoulders the journey to a better Abia started and Dr. promised not to disappoint Abians while calling on Abians to place Abia first in order to secure a better future.
He used the forum to present the best Abia performing students in WAEC from the three senatorial zones with cash awards and urged others to emulate them by continuing to make the state proud.
The Governor had earlier presented various classes of awards to deserving 36 Abians, including the immediate past governor and now senator representing Abia Central at the senate, Senator Theodore Orji hwho received the highest state award as Enyi Abia.
Earlier,the chairman,Abia State Advisory Council,Ezeogo (Dr)Anagha Ezeikpe implored Abians to Alway stick on equity and justice as enshrined in the Abians Charter of equity as a way to ensure greater development of the state.
Earlier on sunday the governor has reopened Enyimba stadium Aba which was reconstructed by him at the cost of N600m which now has a synthetic turf worth 1.6m euros.
Speaking in an interview with journalists after the reopening ceremony which also witnessed a novelty match between the former Green Eagles of Nigeria and ex-Enyimba players,Governor Ikpeazu desscibef the new look Enyimba stadium as a reward of many months of harfwork.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of ex-Enyimba Boys and presence of thousands of soccer enthusiastes at the stadium.
Governor Ikpeazu said he intends to surpass what is on ground at the Enyimba international Stadium Aba in umuahia Township stadium and restated his commitment to all round sports development in the state.
“I will like to deliver something that is better than that of Enyimba in Umuahia.It is cheaper and we will not go into regarding and there will be nothing like flooded pitch”,he explained.
