Abia state Government has restated her commitment to ensure the recovery of public lands and assets converted to private use in Aba and other parts of the State soon.
Okay Kanu the Commissioner for Information and Culture, made this known while briefing newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor, Alex Otti.
He said that the Abia State Government was committed to recovering all her assets illegally converted by individuals and groups and would not leave any stone unturned in realizing the objective.
Kanu hinted that in the coming days, Government would also begin the enforcement of ban on Street trading in Aba and other cities.
According to him, the ban on Street trading would elongate the life of the newly constructed roads and ease traffic on the roads.
The Information boss revealed that the State Government had secured approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to commence Nursing and Midwifery programme
The Commissioner said that by this approval, Abia State can now increase its yearly intakese of Nurses and Midwives to attend to the health needs of Abians.
Prince Kanu also revealed that plans were afoot to provide financial support to those affected by the Ovom flooding disaster even as he stated that measures we’re being put in place to bring a lasting solution to the erosion menace around Ovom and other places in Aba.
InThe Information boss revealed that the state government would compensate residents who had been adversely affected by the erosion menace in Ovom.
Throwing more light in the health sector of the State, the Commissioner for Health, Ngozi Okoronkwo said that the approval granted the State by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria would help the State increase her manpower in the health sector while efforts would be made to amend the Act establishing the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery get legislative backings to convert t Abia State Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery.
Okoronkwo also noted that Abia had been included among the six pilot states to participate in the first phase of the health programme of US Centre for Diseas Control which would provide Abia the leverage to benefit from so many health packages of the Federal government.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Commerce and Industry, Nwaka Inem said that the Vision of the administration of Governor Alex Otti is to return the State to the glorious era of industrialization by bringing back to life over 40 moribund industries in the State.
Inem also revealed that plans were on to identify and revive moribund industries in every part of the State, adding that government’s plan was to reduce the rate of unemployment and crime by resusditating moribund industries and encourage the birth of new ones through favorable business policies.__
