The governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has assured members of the Nigerian Legion Abia State Council, the Armed Forces, Paramilitary and other Security Agencies, that his administration will not relent in giving the necessary encouragement and support to them.
Ikpeazu who gave the assurance during an inter- denominational Church Service for the celebration of the year 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day to recognize the gallantry of the men and officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces at various field and military operation within the Global Space held at the Methodist Church, Wesley Cathedral, No 1 Crowther Street, Umuahia.
The Governor further assured that his led administration will do all it can, within the limit of available resources in appreciation of their commitment and complimentary roles in ensuring the sustanance of peace, unity and security in the State and nation through sustained partnership.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu appreciated God for the yearly event and for the supreme sacrifices the country’s fallen heroes did to ensure that the nation remained safe and united.
He promised to contribute his qouta to ensure that their sacrifices will not be in vain and also called for sustained prayers from Churches across the State to enable the State continue to move to greater heights.
Governor Ikpeazu seized the opportunity to advice parents to be alive to their responsibility of inculcating the right morals in their children, to assist the Government halt various forms of insurgencies and other crimes in the country.
He attributed the increase in banditry, kidnapping among other vices to negligence on the part of parents towards proper training of their children and wards.
In his sermon earlier, the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, The Most Rev’d Dr Raphel Opoko challenged Government’s at various levels to review upwards any existing policy on the catering of children and widows of the fallen hero’s in addition to ensuring the speedy release of their entitlements.
The Most Rev Dr Opoko who used the forum to commend members of the Nigerian Armed Forces for exhibiting high level of expertise in various International assignments and missions, called on the Federal Government to have a rethink and give adequate support and encouragement to all Security Agencies.
He assured all in the Frontline of duty that God’s Glory and protection will always overshadow them as they battle to safeguard the Nigerian nation.
In a vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Women and Social Development, Chief, Mrs, Ukachi Amala appreciated all that attended the inter- denominational Church Service in honour of the sacrifice of the nation’s fallen heroes and members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and called for more prayers to enable them continue in their task of providing peace and security in the land.
The Service which featured intercessory prayers for good leadership at all levels and progress of the State and nation as well as for an end to all forms of criminal vices and the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic
The members of the State Executive Council, top Government Officials, Service Commanders including the Commander 14 Brigade Nigeria Army Ohafia, Major Gen Tunde Kumapaye, the Chairman State Chapter of Nigeria Region , Commander Ambrose Nnaukwu Rtd, local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, the Clergy and others attended the service.
