A socio-political group in the North, the Arewa Coalition Group for Security and Human Rights has flayed the decision of the Federal Government to cancelled the Katsina-Kankara-Dutsima- Mararaba-Kankara Road project in Katsina.
According to the group, the cancellation of the road project spanning about seven local governments across Katsina State by the Federal Government is in bad taste and is capable of setting the North against the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
These form part of the speech delivered by the National Coordinator, Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad in Arewa House, Kaduna on Tuesday.
Muhammad who addressed the press on the issue on behalf of the group called for restoration of the contract to a local firm, Vipan Global Resources Limited, saying that would restore the confidence of the people of the state as well as the entire North in the government of President Bola Tinubu.
While blaming the development (cancellation of project), on the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, governor Dikko Rada and former governor Masari and Presidential aide, Ibrahim Masari, Muhammad on behalf of his group said, “the cancellation could be seen as an attempt to rift between President Bola Tinubu and the North.
“Moreover, it portrays the administration as negative to the state and the entire North.”
The group wondered what must have happened to the contract, as it said members had initially lauded the speed and diligence demonstrated by the contractor who had promptly mobilized to site upon the award.
“We suspect that the cancellation may have been politically motivated possibly targeting opposition figures in the state who are linked to the contractor.
“Furthermore, the ministry’s reason for the cancellation are not tenable, as there projects with lesser budgetary provisions that were not cancelled,” Muhammad said.
They however called for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu on the matter, saying he (the president) must call the Minister to order.
