Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last Saturday presidential election, has defeated his opponents to win Sokoto State elections with a total votes of 3,235
288,679 votes.
Atiku, who garnered 288,679 votes, keenly followed by the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu, who scored a total number of 285, 444 votes, which leave the difference between the two top candidates to 3235 votes in favor of the PDP.
They were however follows by candidates of Labour Party and that of New Nigerian Peoples Party, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, came third and fourth with total votes of 6,568 and 1,3000 respectively.
Announcing the results at about 2:40am on Tuesday, the returning officer for the Presidential election in the state, Prof. kabiru Bala, the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, after announcing the results invited the parties representative to sign the results.
In his remarks, the Director General of the PDP campaign committee, Honourable Yusuf Suleiman, called on INEC to look into the issue of cancel elections which he said more than 400 polling units election cancelled in the state.
He said about 300,000 voters in the state has been disenfranchised in the state which he said their votes can go for either of the political parties including APC, PDP, Labour Party or even New Nigerian Peoples Party.
Also speaking, the Director General of the APC campaign committee, Honourable Maigari Dingyadi, said politician should not quote figures without recourse to INEC.
Dingyadi who is also the Minister for Police Affairs, however urged INEC to look into the circumstances that lead to the cancellation of the results.
Meanwhile, the returning officer disclosed that a total number of 133 registration areas were affected with 471 polling units in the cancellation.
He further explained that the affected areas also include 301,499 registered voters with 254,902 Permanent Voters collected.
