The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (CGIS), Kemi Nandap, has called on border communities to remain vigilant and provide authorities with information on suspected illegal immigrants. Nandap made this appeal on Friday during her visit to the Kongolam border community in Katsina State, as part of her assessment tour of border posts across the country.

“Nigeria is our country, and we need to join hands to ensure peace. Our job is to manage the nation’s borders,” Nandap stated. “We need your support by giving us information on the movement of suspected persons around the border areas because you know the people who live amongst you.”

Highlighting the critical role of border communities in national security, she emphasized, “Border communities are critical stakeholders in border security, so we need them to continue to join hands with the service to enable it to achieve its mandate. Safe borders mean a safe nation, and the NIS is the lead agency when it comes to border security.”

During her visit, Nandap also inspected border facilities to assess their current state and determine what resources are needed for effective border management. “I am here to assess our border facilities, what we have, and what we need to deploy, all in an effort to effectively man the borders,” she added.

In addition to her visit to the Kongolam community, Nandap paid a courtesy call to the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq. She sought the emirate’s continued cooperation with the NIS in managing the nation’s borders effectively.

The Emir of Daura assured her of his unwavering support for the NIS. He also urged the government to provide the service with all necessary resources to enable it to fulfill its duties diligently.

“We assure you of our continuous support to the service to enable it to achieve the mandate of securing the borders,” the Emir affirmed.
