President Muhammadu Buhari will address a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, sources at the presidency reportedly disclosed on Tuesday.

The president’s address to lawmakers is expected to focus on the escalating security situation in the country.

The address is coming almost a week after the House of Representatives summoned  President Buhari following the worsening security situation, especially the massacre of more than 43 Zabarmari farmers in Borno State, by Boko Haram on November 28.

On December I, the House of Representatives had summoned Buhari over the killing of the farmers most of who were rice farmers in Zabarmari, a community in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.

Those hacked to death during the attack which took place in the early morning were mainly Zabarmari youth farmers.

The victims were buried the following day.

At the time of this report we gathered that about 79 farmers are still missing since the attack.

According to the 53 years old traditional ruler of Zabarmari, some of the abducted farmers who witnessed the massacre narrated their ordeal in the hands of their killers who allowed them to escape to tell the community how thir attackers murdered the youths.

The incident sparked outrage on social media with many calling for the resignation of service chiefs and even the president himself.

The following week, both Chambers of the National Assembly debated separate motions on the issue. But while the Senate simply called for the removal of current service chiefs (for the third time), the House on its own summoned President Buhari, Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The decision by the House was reached after a rowdy debate on a motion of urgent national importance by S Ahmed.
