Buratai Seeks Traditional Rulers’ Support To End Banditry.

Sensitive to the role of traditional rulers to ensure peace in their domains,  the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai yesterday in Zamfara solicited the  support of traditional leaders in the state to combat  armed bandits and  criminalities in the area and the entire North West geo political zone.

According to a press release signed by Col Sagir Musa, Nigerian army spokesman,

Gen Buratai made the call when he paid a courtesy call to Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, the Emir of Gusau Alh Dr Ibrahim Bello in his palace in Gusau, Zamfara State Capital.

While commending the emir for his hospitality Buratai stated that he was in zamfara on operational tour of formations and units of 8 Division Nigerian Army to assess the level of their combat readiness in the reinvigorated efforts to combat banditry and  insecurity in the zone.

He also saluted the monarch for ensuring a cordial relationship between the Nigerian Army and the civil populace.  The Chief of Army Staff informed the emir about the Nigerian Army 157 years’ celebration (Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2020) and the commencement of Exercise SAHEL SANITY which is currently simultaneously ongoing in kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Sokoto and Zamfara states.

He also solicited for the support of the traditional rulers in sensitizing their people to cooperate with the security agencies by providing  necessary information to help in containing the lingering security challenges in the region and the country at large.

While speaking the emir assured COAS that he would give all the necessary support to the Nigerian Army  in order for peace to reign in the zone.

At the occasion, prayer was offered for peace in the country.
