A Federal High Court in Kano has intervened in the ongoing saga surrounding the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law. Justice Mohammed Liman granted an order to halt the Kano State Government from enforcing the law, following an application by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.

The court’s decision comes after the Kano State House of Assembly dissolved all four newly created emirate councils in the state during a recent plenary session. This move was made public through viral court documents regarding the case.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State had also reinstated Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano, four years after his dethronement by former Governor Umar Ganduje. Additionally, the governor deposed five emirs appointed by Ganduje, instructing them to vacate their official residences and palaces within 48 hours. However, with the court order in place, the situation remains fluid as legal proceedings unfold.
