On Thursday, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) were seen at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, amidst growing speculation about the Emir’s potential deposition.

This development follows the Kano State House of Assembly’s passage of the Kano State Emirates Council Amendment Law (Repeal Bill), 2024, earlier in the day. The bill, which swiftly moved through its second and third readings, led to the dissolution of the four newly created emirate councils in the state.

News reporters visiting the palace around 11 am noted the presence of DSS operatives stationed at the location, adding to the tense atmosphere and fuelling further rumours of the Emir’s imminent deposition.

The legislative changes have sparked widespread speculation that this move may pave the way for the reinstatement of the previously deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido II.

As the situation develops, the presence of security operatives at the palace suggests that authorities are taking precautionary measures amidst the uncertainty surrounding the Emir’s position.
