Elon Musk’s online platform, X, has removed yet another trace of its former identity as Twitter, nearly 10 months after the tech billionaire renamed the social media service. Musk announced on Friday that profiles previously associated with twitter.com will now be directed to x.com.

“From now on, users who type in twitter.com will be directed to x.com,” Musk stated.

Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022 for $44 billion and later rebranded it to X, aiming to reflect a broader vision for the platform beyond just short messaging. His ambitions for X include adding new functionalities such as voice and video calls, job search features, and money transfer services.

Since taking over, Musk has relaxed content moderation rules and significantly reduced the staff responsible for these duties. This shift led to a sharp decline in advertising revenue, historically the primary source of Twitter’s funding. Many advertisers have been concerned about their brands appearing alongside potentially harmful content, although X denies any issues with hate speech on the platform.

The rebranding efforts mark Musk’s ongoing strategy to transform X into a multifunctional platform, signaling a departure from its roots as a traditional social media service.
