The Emir of Daura Dr Umar Farouk Umar has commended the Nigerian Army for its fight against banditry and crimes in the north west. The Emir who made the remarks while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai in his palace in Daura, Katsina state, noted that the Nigerian army under the current leadership has shown commitment as well as untiring efforts to containing the myriad of security challenges in Daura emirate and Nigeria at large.
In a statement signed by the acting director of Army public relations, Col Sagir Musa and made available to The New Narrative newspapers, Dr Umar who expressed satisfaction with efforts of the army in tackling insecurity used the occasion to alert
Nigerians on the danger of the current dynamic and multifaceted security threats facing the nation. According to the emir, “What Nigeria is experiencing now is greater than civil war, and that the war (civil war) was won with the prayers, advices and goodwill of all Nigerians, especially the elders, traditional and religious leaders in the country without any sentiments”. He stated that the same approach is expected to deal with the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria.
The statement continues: “The emir cautioned that at this period, there is no need for undue inteference with security matters to avoid distracting the security agencies, more so the President is a former war tested general and a two times head of state who knows the military more than any civilian”.
He enjoined Nigerians to be weary of people intent to divide the military and the President, urging them to remember that President Buhari took over power at a critical time when Nigeria was at the verge of collapse. The emir said: “The current situation is like the spectators who see all the faults in the players but can not do better if given the chance”.
The emir who with the same token applauded other security agencies, urged Buratai “to remain resolute, focus and continue with his good work and not to listen to distractive comments from any quarter”.
While praying for peace to return in the area, the monarch
also used the Chief of Army Staff’s visit hail the Nigerian Army for setting up an FOB and a Bn in Daura town, to enhance response to security threats in the area and surrounding communities stressing it has largely assisted in providing the required peace and security in the area.
Speaking on the need for the people to support the military and other agencies, he called on them to always provide useful information on suspicious persons, movements and activities in the communities for them to succeed in providing the necessary security for in the country.
As part of the efforts to combt banditry and ensuring lasting peace and security in Katsina state and the North west, the Chief of Army Staff Buratai was at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Daura in Katsina State where he was briefed on the operational state of 171 Battalion Daura.
While speaking the Chief of Army Staff assured the emirate council and Nigerians of the renewed vigour and determination of the Nigerian Army to tackle the security challenges in the northwest and the country as a whole. He said his visit was in response to the concerns occasioned by the recent banditry activities in different parts of the region and Katsina state in particular.
In his words: “Already, the NA has commenced reorganization of its operations across Nigeria and senior officers of the service are in the state to fully implement the clear directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to effectively checkmate the security challenges in the country”.
To this end, Gen Buratai solicits from the emir, the continous support of people of Daura and Nigerians as well as their prayers, guidance and goodwill.
