During the launch of the book “Dauloli a Kasar Hausa” (Kingdoms in Hausaland) by Prof. Sa’idu-Mohammed Gusau in Zaria, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, called on traders to reduce the cost of foodstuffs and goods, facilitating an easier observance of Ramadan for the masses.
The royal leader also appealed to affluent Nigerians to assist the less privileged during the holy month. Emir Ado-Bayero extended his prayers for the protection of people’s lives, wishing for their well-being and the acceptance of prayers and sacrifices during Ramadan.
Commending the book’s publisher for providing comprehensive details on the Hausa kingdoms in Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Zazzau, among others, the emir highlighted its clear explanations regarding the administrative systems, trades, norms, and values of each kingdom.
Prof. Ahmed Zaria, the book reviewer from Kaduna State University, praised the 356-page publication for offering a detailed narrative and history of the Hausa kingdoms, covering politics, administration, norms, and values from their inception to the present. He emphasized its significance for students and researchers in linguistics and history.
While advising academics not to neglect research activities, Prof. Zaria expressed concern about some academics abandoning research upon reaching the professorial cadre. The book’s publisher, Prof. Gusau, explained that the project aimed to harmonize the written history of the Hausa Kingdoms, emphasizing that most university research focused on a few kingdoms rather than all. He emphasized the book’s role in fostering harmony and unity among the Hausa kingdoms and other Nigerians.
