The Federal government has reappointed Dr Kingsley Achigbu as the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, Imo state.

Dr Kingsley Achigbu whose first tenure ends in November this year, has gotten tenure renewal for another four years by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The confirmation of his reappointment was announced by the Honorable Minister of State for Health, Dr Senator Mamora, while giving him his renewal letter. The minister said that he got his tenure renewed because President Buhari is pleased with his sterling performance at the center which is the busiest and largest in the country.
The emergence of hard working Dr Achigbu in 2017 as the Chief Executive of the center, has changed the ugly narratives of strike, strife, poor service delivery, low workers morale and divisions among the staff, Unions and management.

The Medical Director and his board has been able to attract mega projects that will transform the hospital as a first class health institution in the country. Some of these projects include: Fully equipped Isolation/Treatment Complex with a diagnostic facility, New Dialysis Complex. Neurological Ward and Research Center.
On going projects, nearing completion are, the Specialist Clinic Complex, Obstetrics Wing of the O and G Complex including the multi million naira Accident and Trauma Center.

The Honorable Minister of State, Health, while inaugurating some of these projects in April, commended the center for her prudent management of scarce resources and harmonious working relationship and applauded them for priding itself with medical and health experts who can compete effectively with their counterparts anywhere in the world.

According to his media assistant, chief Emeka Ogaraku, in a press brief, Dr Kingsley Achigbu performance did not go unnoticed by the centers land owners led by the Traditional Ruler of Umuororonjo Autonomous Community, Eze Dr Clinton Uboegbulam,who described him as an asset to the center and donated a large expanse of land to it, preparatory to it being a Teaching Hospital.

“The next four years will enable the Medical Director, consolidate on his good works and pursue to it’s fruition the upgrading of the center into a Teaching Hospital”. Ogaraku stressed.
