The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to contractors involved in the construction of school buildings across Nigeria, emphasizing that substandard projects will not be tolerated. This warning comes as the government prepares to deploy monitors nationwide to ensure the quality of school infrastructure.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), highlighted this during a training session for UBEC’s physical planning staff. He emphasized that contractors must adhere strictly to building specifications to prevent future tragedies, particularly in vulnerable school environments.

In collaboration with the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) and Tectonics Engineering Group, UBEC aims to enhance the monitoring of school projects, utilizing advanced tools to assess the quality of construction materials on-site.

Bobboyi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing safe and durable educational facilities, especially for young children. He warned that any contractor found delivering substandard work would face severe consequences.

NBRRI’s Director-General, Professor Samson Duna, also stressed the importance of adhering to quality specifications, noting that new inspection tools will help ensure compliance at all construction sites.
