In a recent development, a Federal High Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has granted bail to the former governor of the state, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had detained Ahmed over alleged fraudulent transactions involving substantial amounts that occurred during his tenure as Kwara State governor.

The anti-graft agency specifically accused the former governor of utilizing N1,610,730,500.00 for chartering private jets, funds originally designated for the security and running cost of the state government.

Justice Evelyn Anyadike set eight bail conditions for Ahmed’s release. While confirming the bail approval, EFCC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), revealed that the court established eight specific conditions for the former governor’s release.

Kehinde Eleja (SAN), the defendant’s counsel, expressed concerns about the treatment of his client and noted that the court exercised discretion in supporting the defendant’s plea. The case has been adjourned to April 29 and 30 for further proceedings.
