The Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mohammed Barkindo, has extended his condolences to the Nigerian Army following the death of one of its personnel in a series of suicide attacks in Gwoza Local Government Area last Saturday.

Barkindo also commiserated with the families of a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) member and other civilians who lost their lives in the coordinated bombings.

Reports indicate that over 30 people, including female suicide bombers, were killed, and more than 100 others sustained various injuries.

Speaking with Vanguard on Sunday, Barkindo, who was on the ground with his evacuation team, described the incident as tragic and barbaric.

“On behalf of Governor Babagana Zulum, I commiserate with the Commanding Officer in Gwoza town over the loss of one of his personnel during the suicide attacks,” he said. “I also extend my condolences to the family of the CJTF member who was killed and to the families of all those who lost their loved ones.”

Barkindo added, “Since I am in Gwoza, I will provide funeral service materials, attend the funeral prayers, and participate in the condolences and sympathy greetings. May Allah grant Aljannatul Firdaus to the souls of the deceased, and we wish those injured a quick recovery.”

The SEMA boss also noted that 34 individuals with severe injuries were successfully transported to Maiduguri for proper medical treatment on Sunday morning.
