The Anambra South Senatorial bye-election to replace late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has been marred by violence with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) arrested.

Four polling agents of the APC candidate, Sir Azuka Okwuosa, have been taken away by the local government chairman of Ekwusigo local government area with the support of a community leader in Ozubulu

The development forced youths in the area to stage protest, alleging harassment and intimidation by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led government

Immediate past Anambra Speaker Hon Rita Maduagwu  said that APGA invaded her Ukpor Ward 3,009 to unleash mayhem on the voters

The situation has heightened tension in Nnewi and Ekwusigo local government areas. Other areas where violence erupted included Ward 4, Units 001 and 003, Ward 4_ Unit 8 in Ekwusigo, where the APC Agents were arrested and whisked away by the government agents.

Security operatives had stepped in to quell the situation as of the time of filing in the report.

But National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Ejiomofor Opara, denied the allegations, adding that no APGA official or government person could do that.

He alleged that APC members were just claiming violence and arrests.
