The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the senator representing Abia Central, Sen. Theodore Orji and his Abia North counterpart, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu among others have expressed their excitement over Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala on her emergence as the New Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

According to Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Gov. Ikpeazu who described Okonjo-Iweala as “a history maker, pace setter and powerful pathfinder for the women folk on the global scene”, stated further, “Dr. Okonjo Iweala’s emergence as  the first woman ever and the first African to hold this very lofty position is clear testimony to her brilliance, tenacity, experience and wide acceptance across international borders.

“Her emergence is yet another evidence that excellence and hardwork have their rewards, even at the highest level”.

In a statement by Ifeanyi Umere, his Chief Liaison Officer, the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Sen. Theodore Ahamefula Orji said the emergence of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director General of the World Trade Organization, (WTO) did not come to him as a surprise.

“Her track record in different fora have always presented her as one the world can recon with, even with her performance as the Finance Minister of this great country, Nigeria and her performance in the World Bank”, the senator said, adding that Okonjo-Iweala has all it takes to steer the ship of international trade to what the organization should be and has no doubt she will succeed.

Sen. Orji expressed his confidence that she will again, write her name in gold on this call duty and called on Nigerians, particularly, Abians to offer their prayers for her to enable her turn around the organization, which is the expectation of the international community.

In his statement made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu described Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as “a thorough bred-professional, with undoubted capacity and impeccable character”.

“Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has made Nigeria proud for being the first African and first female to occupy the position of  Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in its 25-year history”, Sen. Kalu said, adding “Dr. Okonjo-Iweala will no doubt bring to bear her cross national and multi- sector experience in her role. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has made Africa proud”.
