 …Demands Rigjig Of Security Apparatus

By John Nwokocha

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has demanded an end to bloodshed in the country.

The Coalition in a statement said it was deeply pained over the killings of innocent Nigerians

across the country by Boko Haram insurgents, bandits, armed robbers,

kidnappers and ritualists, saying “it is outrageous, barbaric and despicable.

Enough is enough”.

“It is unfortunate that Nigerians are no longer safe in their fatherland in a democratic government that promised security of lives and property to the citizenry in tandem with section 14(2)b of the

1999 constitution as amended which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government. CUPP is saddened that Nigerians can no longer travel nor sleep with their two eyes closed due to incessant killings across the country”. The statement reads.

Calling for immediate rigjig of the nation’s security apparatus the Coalition argues that it will pave way for competent, gallant and visionary military officers to take charge of various military commands, inject fresh blood and passion in the war against terrorism and liberate the nation from these heartless bloodthirsty insurgents, bandits, armed robbers and ritualists.

According to the statement signed by Rev. Olusegun Peters Chairman, Contact and Mobilization Committee Member, Steering Committee of the Coalition, “To win the war against terror is a cardinal objective of the Buhari presidency in 2015 which he has since jettisoned due to leadership fatigue and confusion in his government’.

“President Buhari’s clumsy rebuke of military service chiefs in his recent meeting with them where he said their best was not good enough amounts to an insensitive pat on the wrist and treating the worsening security situation with a kid’s glove. It is unacceptable to Nigerians who daily lose their loved ones in numerous attacks across the country. Nigerian lives matter and must be protected from the hands of marauding terrorists. Government should also intensify efforts to ensure the release of Chibok and Dapchi school girls abducted by Boko Haram. Their continued captivity in the hands of terrorists is a dent and open wounds in the conscience of the nation that abandoned them to their fate”.

The Coalition applauded members of the armed forces at various battle fronts fighting for the soul of the nation. It said that many of them have paid the

supreme price with their lives, while others were wounded in combats. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they fight for the peace, unity and security of the nation. Nigerians are proud of them and urge military authorities to ensure they are adequately cared for and provided with necessary weapons in this crucial national task”.

Condoling with the family of the late Tolulope Arotile,

Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot who died

recently in an automobile accident in Kaduna, it says it shares the grief of family. “The coalition is heartbroken over the sudden demise of this gallant officer who contributed so much in

the fight against terrorism and banditry in Nigeria by flying several combat missions”.
