The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, has extended an invitation to members of the Council of State and Police Council to a hybrid strategic meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025.
This meeting comes against the backdrop of rising insecurity challenges across the nation, which have been a major concern for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since he assumed office.
Since taking the reins in May 2023, President Tinubu has faced mounting pressure to address the escalating security issues plaguing the country. From banditry and kidnapping in the North to separatist agitations in the South-East, and cult-related violence in the South-South, Nigeria’s security landscape has become increasingly complex.
The nation has witnessed a surge in violent crimes, with many lives lost and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
The insecurity situation has been further compounded by the activities of terrorists in the North-East, where the remnants of Boko Haram continue to wreak havoc on innocent civilians. The bandits, who have been terrorizing communities in the North-West, have also been known to demand ransom from families of abducted victims, further exacerbating the economic hardship faced by many Nigerians.
In light of these challenges, the Federal Government has been working to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The meeting between the Council of State, Police Council, and other stakeholders is expected to provide a platform for a comprehensive review of the security situation and chart a way forward.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop Umobong, the meeting aims to discuss matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing.
In a statement on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, the Director Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the meeting is scheduled to hold on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the Council Chambers, Aso Villa.
While the meeting with the Council of State holds by 1:00 pm, the meeting with the Police Council will be held by 2:00 pm.
Members are requested to participate either physically or virtually.
Imohiosen said the high-level meeting underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
The meeting is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues affecting the nation and chart a way forward for addressing security challenges.
With the nation’s security landscape being a top priority, the meeting is highly anticipated to yield positive outcomes.
