The Kebbi state government has debunked rumours making the rounds that it has increased tax on goods and services to boost its local revenue.
Speaking to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi,the acting permanent secretary ministry of budget and economic planning Hajiya Aisha Usman said she was not aware of any increase from anywhere in the state,she added that such are pigments of peoples imagination because government did not at anytime contemplate increasing its tax.
She mentioned that services are not controlled by the state government, the nation’s economy determines what individuals will pay for services rendered to them,therefore that stands as rumour as they are no plans for now to increase tax Aisha said.
The acting permanent secretary though admitted that,the current tax regime existing in the state is obsolete because is the one inherited from Sokoto state,according to her the present economic situation in the country such taxes are meager as deducted from the purse of civil servants since those taxes are to be added to the federal allocation coming to the state to pay salaries and executes developmental projects in the state.
Usman urged people in the state to continue to disregard such statements as mere rumours that has no basis,the ministry will furnish the public on what is going on the budget ministry, she called the people of the state to cooperate with the government to move the state forward and to get dividends of democracy she concluded.
