The kebbi state chairman of the National association of Nigerian nurses and midwives (NANNM) comrade Kilani Abdulwaliyu has called on the state government to improve the welfare of its members across the state.
Kilani explained that, the state is doing its best on their renumeration as both students nurses and midwives are already on the state payroll and are absorbed immediately after school but urged the government to improve their welfare to boost their morale as they discharge their official duties.
The unionist who decried shortage of manpower in the state owned hospital admitted that manpower shorted of nurses and midwives is a global problem, he added that his members despite little working equipment available are trying to meet the demands of thousands of patients visiting sir yahya memorial hospital in Birnin kebbi, he noted that, to keep pace with modern technology the need for more health gadgets is inevitable.
On health workers particularly nurses on the frontline working on covid19 at least 20 of his members both senior and junior cadre were infected with covid19 while on duty but all are now stable and had returned to the battle field therefore urged the government to fast track the payments of hazard allowances to nurses, midwives and other health workers on the frontline.
Kilani who thanked his members for throwing their weight behind him urged them not relent on their duties, while thanking the state government for providing security to his members across the state at their work places he called on him to continue to do so as insecurity persist across the country.
