The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended a Togolese driver in connection with a fatal accident at the Adeniji Adele Intersection, inward Ilubirin, Lagos Island.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, the incident occurred when the driver, operating a Mazda vehicle with registration number EPE 749 GS, lost control and struck a pedestrian, causing severe injuries.

The driver was reportedly speeding and attempted to flee the scene before being apprehended by LASTMA officials.

Taofiq added that the suspect was promptly transferred into the custody of security operatives from the Adeniji Adele Police Division for comprehensive interrogation and subsequent prosecution.

Emergency medical responders from LASAMBUS conveyed the injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for urgent treatment.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, sternly admonished motorists to embrace an uncompromising sense of safety consciousness whenever behind the wheel, emphasising that excessive speed continues to be a primary precipitant of needless tragedies on Lagos roadways.

While conveying his profound sympathies to the accident victim, Mr. Bakare-Oki fervently wished the injured pedestrian a rapid and full recovery, reaffirming the Authority’s steadfast dedication to protecting human lives and preserving orderliness across the State’s transportation corridors.
