A new era has begun at the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, as Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim formally took over leadership on Monday, promising to wage a decisive war against smuggling and ramp up revenue collection.
Taking the reins at the Command headquarters, Ibrahim said Kebbi’s strategic border position demands “firmness, vigilance and consistency,” adding that the Command will combine intelligence, collaboration and transparency to secure Nigeria’s borders and protect its economy.
“Kebbi Area Command is not just a gateway, it is a lifeline for national security and economic stability,” he declared.
“I fully recognize the weight of this responsibility and pledge my utmost commitment to justify the trust and confidence reposed in me.”
The new helmsman rolled out an action plan anchored on five pillars: tougher anti-smuggling operations, enhanced revenue drive through automation, tighter border control in partnership with other security agencies, deeper stakeholder engagement, and improved welfare and training for officers.
He warned that under his watch, indiscipline, corruption and sabotage would face swift and firm sanctions, while exceptional service would be rewarded. “Accountability will be firm, swift and fair,” Ibrahim assured, urging officers to rededicate themselves to the Customs’ core values of integrity, efficiency and professionalism.
Paying tribute to his predecessor, Comptroller Chidi Nwokore, Ibrahim said he would build on the solid foundation already laid to take the Command “to even greater heights.”
He also extended a hand of partnership to traders, border communities and other stakeholders, stressing that the Command’s doors “will remain open for dialogue” to foster lawful trade and shared prosperity.
