My office’s not family inheritance, Dapo Abiodun reacts to Tinubu’s comment

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has said that his political office is not a family inheritance, in what seemed to be a veiled reference to the statement by the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, that he would not have become a governor if not for his (Tinubu) influence.
Abiodun, via his Twitter page on Friday, also said that he is not an emperor and the people will always come first in his dealings, adding that he had vowed to God to be fair, just and equitable.
Tinubu, who has declared publicly that becoming the Nigerian President is his life ambition, boasted yesterday, Thursday, that he made Abiodun governor.
The former Lagos Governor made the statement during a meeting with the APC delegates in Ogun State.
APC has faced with a mountain over who becomes the presidential flag bearer, especially when President Muhammadu Buhari begged the party’s governors to let him choose his successor.
Buhari’s statement has reportedly unsettled Tinubu, who told the APC screening panel, led by the party’s former National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, that he would not agree to consensus candidate except if he is chosen as against other aspirants including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Lawan, and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
What Tinubu said
In his bid to woo many party chieftains and stalwarts to his side ahead of the primaries scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Tinubu said Abiodun could not have been ruling as governor without God and him.
Tinubu said: “It’s over 34 years now that I have been serving them. This one sitting behind me, Dapo, can he say it that he would have become the governor if not for me?
“We were together at the MKO Abiola Stadium; he was intimated.
“They didn’t want to give him the party’s flag. I was the one that handed the flag to him.
“He knows that he cannot be the governor without the help of God and my support.
“If he wants to meet God at the right place, he must know that without God and me, he would not have become Governor.”
Dapo’s reaction
In his reaction, on Friday, Dapo tweeted that he was not an emperor and that the highest state’s political position is not his family inheritance.
Dapo tweeted: “I am not an emperor by any chance and this is not my family inheritance.
“I am holding this position in trust for all the people of this state and I have vowed to be fair, just and equitable and this is the solemn agreement I made between the Almighty God and myself.”
