In a chilling revelation, the Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of four Pakistani nationals suspected of working as foreign mercenaries for terrorist groups Boko Haram and ISWAP, escalating concerns over growing international involvement in Nigeria’s insurgency.
Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, made the shocking disclosure during a media tour in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The army commander also pointed to a disturbing increase in coordination among terrorist factions, made possible through the tactical guidance of these foreign trainers, resulting in: Heavier casualties among Nigerian troops; Rising loss of military equipment; Sophisticated cross-border terror strategies
Abubakar emphasized that this is no longer just a battle against terrorists—it’s a war against Nigeria itself.
“The Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists are not just waging war against the armed forces; they are waging war against Nigeria,” he declared. He called for: Stronger intelligence sharing and surveillance operations; Robust regional collaboration with neighboring countries; National unity and media support to boost troop morale.
Abubakar praised the courage of frontline soldiers enduring brutal conditions, from extreme heat to freezing nights, urging Nigerians to recognize and support them.
This alarming development marks a new phase in Nigeria’s security crisis, demanding immediate and united action to dismantle foreign-backed terror networks operating on Nigerian soil.
