Gov-Abdullahi-Ganduje

By Faruk Muhammad, Kano

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has blamed Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration for the possible collapse of the civil service in the nearest future in the state.

This was contained in a Press statement issued in Kano and signed by the state party chairman Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa.

Doguwa described the recent claim by the Kano state government that it has opened an online recruitment portal as a mere propaganda with sole aim of grabbing information on the permanent voter’s cards of the unsuspecting Kano youths who are hungry for employment.

“I want challenge the state government today, if they are serious, staff recruitment is done by the office of the head of civil service and not by a committee, the current claim for recruitment is suspicious, we believe the government wants to capture sensitive information on the PVCs of the prospective applicants,” added Doguwa’s statement.

He also said “Ganduje’s administration has been characterized with massive corruption, indiscipline, job racketeering, none payment of pension and gratuity, constant delay in payment of salaries and rampant deductions on the monthly payment of civil servants and pensioners, while the government had only paid scholarship once since its inceptions in 2015. The only payment was at the eve of 2019 general elections aimed at wooing voters”

The NNPP noted with total dismay and suspicion that a government which had since withdrawn from the implementation of thirty thousand (N30, 000) minimum wage that was backed by law and honourably accepted by the same administration with even more promises to the civil servants which were yet to be fulfilled, is now turning around with a fake claim of new employment.

The Chairman therefore alleged that, that thousands of civil servants have either retired or died in the service within the last seven years and three months of Ganduje’s administration who were supposed to have been replaced immediately for smooth running of the state administration in all critical sectors, but the government kept mum in an attempt to cripple the civil service.

However, honorable Doguwa noted that, it’s in record that, Kano state has one of the best civil service in the country adding that, it is highly regrettable to see the service running into a total collapse due to lack of commensurate benefit for hard work to the teaming civil servants, introduction of nepotism, job racketeering and many more.

“It’s pertinent therefore to state categorically that civil service reform at both state and local government levels would be one of the top priority areas to be accorded by the next administration of the NNPP in 2023 Insha Allah. Where hard work, commitment and sincerity would be rewarded through training, promotion and improved welfare of the civil servants,” he emphasized.

Also, Mr Doguwa accused that, the present administration has politicized every aspects of government operations including sensitive activities such as recruitment and payment of scholarship to Kano state students.

He then caution all relevant stakeholders, including the electoral umpire that, the NNPP as the major opposition party in the state will not condone inconclusive or any other form of electoral malpractice in 2023 general elections, which the general public believed is the main purpose of this exercise.
