Ahead of this year’s Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise by the National Population Commission (NPC), Ogun State Government has donated 20 motorcycles as part of support to aid mobility of the exercise particularly in remote areas of the State.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made the statement in his address at the flag-off for EAD of Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas at the Kessington Adebutu Civic Centre, Iperu.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said his administration would not relent in mobilising men and materials towards successful implementation of the National Population and Housing Census, adding that such national assignment must be carried out with all seriousness and adequate planning.
“This current Enumeration Area Demarcation being carried out by the National Population Commission, is a welcome development that deserves the cooperation and support of everyone and I assure you of the utmost cooperation of the people of Ogun State’’, he said.
Governor Abiodun informed that since the last population census held in 2006, most of the variables had changed and government had to rely on scientific estimates particularly from non-Nigerian organisations, to plan its programmes.
Abiodun enjoined members of the demarcation team to take the assignment very serious and see it as a means to contribute to Nigeria’s social and economic growth.
In her address, the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Yeye Oluseyi Aderinokun, said beginning from the present phase of the exercise, a new software called EAD PAD has been introduced by NPC to make the process paperless, adding that the demarcation of the Ikenne and Remo North Local Government would commence on Monday 12 October, 2020.
She said Ogun remained the gateway linking Nigeria to the West African Sub-region, as well as the State with largest number of industrial establishments in the country, hence the need to capture and document officially the population growths resulting from its unique position.
Earlier in their remarks, Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas Transition Committee Chairmen, Hon. Akinsanya Rotimi and Hon. Samuel Somoye respectively, appreciated NPC for bringing the flag-off ceremony to their councils’ area, urging the people of the State to give necessary support so as to ensure smooth running of the exercise
They said the enumeration exercise would help solve boundary issues, through demarcation, as well as assist government determine land allocation that belongs to each Local Government Areas, having known the actual number of citizens in each LGA, adding that the programme would also bring development to the State.
Also speaking, the Alaperu of Iperu, Oba Adeleke Basibo, urged people to conduct house-to-house awareness.
