The Abia State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists has restated its support for the current National Vice President Zone C South East Comrade Chris Isiguzo in his aspiration to become the National President come September 26, 2018 election.
The council also bought nomination form for him at the cost of N200,000.00 to demonstrate its support.
The council chairman Comrade John Emejor who stated this while handling over the form to him at NUJ Press Centre No. 1 Aba road Umuahia, said Abia NUJ decided to support Chris Isiguzo because he has the qualities of a good leader and can handle the affairs of the Union at the National level.
He assured him that the council will stop at nothing to ensure that he succeeds.
In his response, Comrade Isiguzo thanked Abia council for the honour done him stressing that it will encourage and spur him to greater action.
He said that he is on rescue mission and with his team if voted for, will bring back the lost glory of NUJ. “Today is not a speech making day. Campaign has not started but I must say that NUJ is facing administrative problem which must be corrected.
He said he has consulted widely and out of 20 councils in the North, “already 17 out of them including Abuja have unanimously agreed that I should come out. They believe in my mission”.
Isiguzo was accompanied to the ceremony by the South East Zonal Secretary Ken Ufoma who also picked his form to seek re-election while the former chairman of Imo State Council Innocent Igwe also received his own form purchased by his council to replace Isiguzo as the vice president. Igwe expressed the hope that the rescue mission will reposition the Union while soliciting for the support of members in this regard.
Earlier, while addressing the mammoth crowd, a member of the screening committee and National board of trustee member representing the South East zone Ezeogo Boniface Okoro said there would be free and fair election in the delegate conference that will hold in Abeokute Ogun State and assured aspirants of level playing ground.
Our correspondent reports that NUJ Chairman from Abuja, Enugu, Anambra, Plateau, former secretary Imo council Emma Odibo, Bauchi State Assistant Secretary, the Director rescue mission campaign organization Alhaji Alli, former council chairman of Abia NUJ Comrade Hyacinth Okoli, former zone C Vice President Comrade Ambrose Nwachukwu among others were at the ceremony.
