The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives of Abia State, on monday (yesterday) staged a peaceful protest to condemn the alleged gruesome killing of one of her members, Mrs Queeneth Alozie.
The news of Alozie’s death which happened on Sunday April the 25, 2021had thrown Umuahia, the capital city of Abia State, into mourning.
Late Mrs Alozie was allegedly attacked and killed in her house at Enyinnaya Ogbulafor drive, opposite BCA, Umuahia by unknown men.
Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia during the protest, the state Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Ugochi Akoma described the killing by unknown hoodlums as barbaric and unheard of.
Akoma wondered why anyone would have the mind to kill a person who is trained to take care of sick people, saying that the death of the colleague is very painful to them her colleagues.
On her part, the unit Chairman, FMC, Mrs Stella Onwuma, said the family of the late Mrs Alozie reported to them that she was killed by unknown men and called on the state government to ensure that Heath workers are protected even in the course of discharging their duties.
Onwuma called on the government and security agents to fish out the perpetrator of the crime for justice to prevail, maintaining that the association is in deep pain over the dastardly way their member was murdered.
She also called on the leadership of the Association of Nurses advised nurses, midwives and other health workers to be security conscious both at home and at their work places.
The Nurses who were obviously pained by the dastardly act and loosing one of their own, had placards with inscriptions like, those involved in this wicked act will not go free, Our Lives are under threat, today it is Queeneth, Who knows whom it may be tomorrow amongst others.
