As part of strategies to improve the health status among pregnant women in Sokoto State, the Nutritional International in conjunction with FAcE-PaM has extends the coverage from three to eight local governments area in the state.
The project officer of the programme in the state, Oyedeji Ayobami, stated this during a one day Gender responsive behaviour change intervention project for stakeholders and journalist in Sokoto on Thursday.
He said the project which was initially in three local governments are of Bodinga, Gwadabawa and Sokoto South local governments area will now be extended to Wamakko, Denge-Shuni, Illela, Kware and Sokoto North local governments respectively is targeting about 4,320 pregnant women in a month.
“Due to the success recorded so far by the outreach in the three local governments in the state, additional five local governments has been added for another six months beginning from November this year to April 2024.
“The gender responsive BCI strategy will be rolled out in Wamakko, Dange Shuni, Sokoto North, Illela and Kware, while the Zinc Lo-ORS BCI strategy is implemented in 23 local governments are of Sokoto State.
“The programme is to increase knowledge among pregnant women and influences on the benefits of attending at least more than four ante-natal starting from early pregnancy.
“It is also meant to increase knowledge among pregnant women and influencers of IFA and it’s benefits for the health of pregnant mothers and their infants among others”
He explained that each of the ten primary health centres will be chooses. In each of the eight local governments across the state.
Speaking in her goodwill message, the Assistant Director, reproductive health, Sokoto State primary health care management authority, Mairo Rabiu Sharif, assured the organization that the state ministry of health will continue to partners with any non governmental organization promoting the well-being of women and children in the state.
Also speaking, Buhari Bello Tambuwal who spoke on behalf of ministry of Budget and planning said the ministry will continue to work with Nutritional International in order to improve the nutrition of pregnant woman and new born babies in the state
