NYCN Abuja Blames Drugs Abuse On Lack Of Family Orientation

The Abuja chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has attributed cases of drug abused among some youth due to lack family orientation in most Nigerian homes within and outside the territory.

The Abuja NYCN chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, who spoke with newsmen at the council secretariat in Abuja recently, said drug abuse among has become so prevalent not only in Abuja, but across the entire the country, saying various institutions such family, federal and states established institutions were not doing their responsibilities to tame the situation.

According to Ango, if you look at what is happening presently, youths are engaged in so many negative vices, not only drug abuse, saying that if one looks at it from the sociological point of view, it will be discovered that it is lack of orientation from their family.

He said it was unfortunate that the youth have lost its co- values, while blaming th government for not creating job or empowering of the youth, adding that lack access to formal source of livelihood pushed the the youth into engaging in sine form of social vices in the society.

He explained that lack employment for the youth by the government forced some of them to go into crimes, internet fraudsters armed robbery and among other social ills that are inimical to the well being of the country.

Ango, said the only alternative for government to address the issue of drug abused and other form of crime among them was for the government to always engage the youth group and association as well as youth voluntary organizations through sensitizing the youths.

He noted that Abuja being center of Nigeria needs to be secured and free from any miscreants that may cause havoc and pains o on the country.

He further advised the government on the need to partner with the youth council and association in order to empower them.

“Even though government job is no longer coming, but the youth need to be engaged, as they need to be incorporated into the society,” he added.
