The Acting Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Christy Ubah, has urged corp members to always do whatever they are doing in sustaining the unity of the country.
She also advised them to initiate impactful community projects and avoid insecurity prone areas.
Ubah, gave the advice on Tuesday while addressing the 2022 Batch C, stream 11, Corp members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Wamakko local government area in Sokoto state.
She urged corps members to initiate viable projects that would impact positively on their host communities during service year noting that the effort would go a long way to the development of Nigeria.
She enjoined corps members to avoid free rides so as not to fall on the tricks of criminals and reprend from unnecessary journeys during thier service year.
The Acting DG further advised corps members to always follow available channels of communication available in the scheme to address issues.
She also cautioned  against social media, saying “don’t go to social media to report allowance issue, if caught, you’ll be sanctioned appropriately”.
On the 2023 general election, the acting Director-General called on corps members who may participate to take advantage of the election sensitisation programmes and training to get knowledge.
She urged them to be neutral, apolitical, patriotic and not to compromise and  to do the right things during the election.
Ubah appealed to politicians to protect the corps members and put them first before their personal interests.
” Straight forward on issues, build bridges and relationships. You’re going to benefit from it later. It is one of the assets you’ll gather here and it’s going to help you in the future,” Ubah said.
She said the intention of forefathers in NYSC scheme is to enhance understanding, foster unity and integration of the citizens
The Acting DG expressed delight with the achievements of the scheme and attributed the outcomes to the efforts, contributions and innovations of corps members toward unity and nation.
In his remarks, the Coordinator of NYSC in Sokoto state, Mr Muhammad Nakamba, expressed satisfaction of NYSC members toward the general orientation courses noting that they have been involved in camp administration.
Nakamba said all camp officials and collaborating bodies were doing well in the course and discharge of their duties and that all activities were progressing well.
He urged corps members to be deligent on Skill Acquisition Empowerment Development (SAED) and leant the skills as white collar jobs were not readily available at the present period.
