Former President Barack Obama has stepped up to support President Joe Biden following a debate performance that many critics described as challenging.
In a statement released via X on Friday, Obama acknowledged the inherent difficulties of debate nights and underscored the significant choice facing voters in the upcoming election.
“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself,” Obama wrote.
He continued, “Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November. http://joebiden.com.”
On Thursday, Biden engaged in a heated debate in Georgia against former President Donald Trump, marking Biden’s first debate of the 2024 election cycle.
