The suspended chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property, Okoi Obono-Obla, has alleged that VP Yemi Osinbajo stopped his panel from investigating his high profile friends for corruption.

He said that the VP stopped the investigations of the MD of First Hydro Carbon, Femi Bajomo, who is yet to pay remittance for OML granted. He also alleged that the VP stopped the panel’s investigation into a N10 billion fraud at the National Health Insurance Scheme, because his men were involved.

The VP is enmeshed in an alleged N90 billion embezzlement scandal. The money was said to have been used to prosecute the 2019

presidential campaign of the APC. He denied the allegations and said he would waive immunity to face investigators.

In an August 26 letter to President Muhammadu Buhari protesting his suspension and contending that the VP wanted him out said” I got a call from the ADC to the VP who said we should stop because Bajomo is ‘ our friend’”

Obono-Obla is being investigated by the ICPC for alleged high school and university certificate forgery and miss appropriation of funds recovered by the panel.

In June of 2018, the Deputy Registrar of WAEC, Femi Ola told the House committee that investigated the alleged forget “ Available evidence indicate that the results were altered and therefore makes them invalid “

The ICPC in a statement said “ preliminary findings show that some provisions of the ICOC Act and extant laws of Nigeria had been allegedly violated by Obono-Obla”

The suspended chairman gave no robust push back on the allegations but simply said his travails were orchestrated by the VP and some ‘ powerful Senators’.

“ The ICPC which is now being used against me is under the protégé of the VP, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye. Prof Owasanoye was part and parcel of the conspiracy against me”
